Tomorrow night, I'm going to do my first phone calls for Obama. I'd appreciate help in the process.
I've been following Obama for quite a while. I didn't vote for him in the primary (I live in IL, so it wasn't a huge thing), but I've contributed to the campaign, and I drove to springfield to see him when he announced Joe Biden as his running mate (see photo diary here). I also voted for Barack on Friday (see voting diary here).
That said, I've been unable to get to Indiana to help GOTV, or canvass for Obama, so I'm finally going to grab the cell phone and start making a few calls.
I'm looking for tips. Barackobama.com has a script to read, but I'm looking for some down-home tips to make the experience worthwhile. I assume I'm calling "undecided" voters, so any tips you could provide would be worthwhile. And thanks in advance for the advice.
A bit of background to flesh out the diary: I have never campaigned for a candidate. Most of my life was spent as a journalist, and that just wasn't something you did. However, this election is too important, and I'm now in a position where my career doesn't prevent me from doing so, so I'm hoping to have a positive impact. I'm an introvert, so calling anyone I don't know is a challenge, to say the least. I hate selling things (or people), so that's another strike against me. Anyway, I really want to be of assistance, so we can take this country in the right direction.
Yes we can!
